Outputmessage and I, Micah Vellian, are both high school teachers at a JROTC public charter school in Northeast DC. Outputmessage teaches math, while I teach remedial reading. We have been talking about starting a project where we’d produce dance music combining our love of electronic, disco, soul, and pop music ever since we met back in college at Virginia Tech circa 2001. So when we were finally able to start off our project, amid our daily dealings with discipline and mischief, it was only fitting that we would call ourselves, Dmerit (http://myspace.com/dmeritmusic). This was an entry in the Foals/Last.FM remix competition. We took an otherwise dark and brooding track and flipped it to make an indie electro banger with a slight touch of Baltimore house.
